The stark reality of an underprivileged average Indian kid became evident when I was travelling abroad. In comparison to the social security provided by the western countries, the Indian kids, especially from the weaker sections of the society, are left to fend themselves. I wondered what future, hold for those kids and was afraid to think of what becomes of them, when devoid of education. It was those string of thoughts that helped me embark on the journey of providing education for impoverished kids in the neighbourhood. Finding a school that needs attention was never a problem.

We chose a government institution, in the community, which was in a dilapidated condition. The students, numbering around 40, spent no more than 2 hours in the School, as they had to beg outside and feed themselves. I found a way to motivate those students and spend more time in the classroom – nutrition. We started, with a glass of milk, which was then appended by a hot meal.

As expected, students retention rates became high, and at one point, 500 kids were being simultaneously fed and educated on the campus. What started with such a small yet an impactful anecdote, is moving forward, making differences in the lives of several children. Our initiatives, small or big, has always had the backing of a generous donors, without whom this would have never been made possible.
